Makeup Lessons - Everything you need to know

Something that has become quite dear to my heart is my one-on-one makeup lessons. Initially, it wasn’t something I had given much thought to, as my main focus was providing hair and makeup services for women attending special events and brides on their wedding day. As my hair and makeup business has evolved and I have met countless women who comment that they wish they could do their own makeup properly, even simple things for day-to-day use, it has made me realise that a lot of women don’t actually know where to start when it comes to doing their own makeup. And then to complement my lessons, I started offering personal shopping sessions, because more often than not, it can be extremely overwhelming walking into a makeup shop and wondering what you should buy and then we end up either buying nothing or all the wrong things!

So how are my makeup lessons any different to what you see on YouTube or what other artists have to offer?

Well, for starters, they are extremely personalised. There is a reason I call them one-on-one lessons, it’s because I want the focus to be you. Often, artists will have group lessons, which sound like fun in theory. You know, the whole 'get your girlfriends around, sip some bubbles, and do some makeup' thing. Now, this is fun and perfect if you’re not too fussed about learning specific makeup skills, but I find that you don’t really end up benefiting in terms of skills you can take away.

With my One on One lessons ( max 2 people if you happen to be siblings, mother/daughter, besties, etc)

I first ask what your makeup goals are:

What exactly do you want to learn?

How much time are you willing to spend doing your makeup?

What kind of budget do you have to spend on makeup?

Do you currently have any routine you follow or makeup products you use?

I will also assess your facial features and skin type to provide product recommendations that will actually work

Based on these answers, I will create a personalised makeup plan just for you!

Next is the fun part, applying the makeup. Step by step I will show you how to execute each technique so that you can practice again and again in your own time. And because it’s a one-on-one lesson, we can repeat the same steps as many times as you need; there's no pressure of falling behind!

Now if you’re the type of person who loves to buy pretty shiny makeup things but then doesn’t quite know how to use them. I can teach you how to utilise all of your current makeup products so that they don’t go to waste. After all, makeup isn’t cheap, so you want to make the most of what you have.

And if you happen to have makeup products lying around from wayyyy back in the day, I’ll help you Marie Kondo those too.

What about the personal makeup shopping sessions?

We all know that there are an infinite number of makeup and skincare products on the market, and it can be incredibly overwhelming. How do you choose the right products for yourself? are they actually worth it? Or is it some TikTok trend that only works on influencers?

Then, of course, there's the issue of terrible shop lighting, which is especially a pet peeve of mine. With my personal makeup shopping sessions, anything that needs a colour match, like foundation (especially foundation!), we won’t buy immediately. I make sure to swatch products on different parts of your face, then we take a walk outside to ensure it still looks good on your face. After that, I’ll have the store provide you with a sample so you can try it out at home. No more wrong shades of foundation and no more hard-earned money wasted!

If you’ve been thinking about levelling up your makeup game or you simply don’t know where to start, get in touch to see how I can help you with your makeup routine.
