How to choose a hairstylist & makeup artist that’s right for your wedding day!

We can all agree that there are so many talented makeup artists and hairstylists in the wedding industry, you might not know where to start. You might have jumped onto social media or done a quick Google search, but still, there are just so many artists to choose from, and it can feel quite overwhelming when trying to decide who to book!

Here are some key things that can help you narrow down your search

  • Style - when looking at a certain hair stylist or makeup artists website or social media page, are you seeing images of makeup looks or hairstyles that you love and want for your own wedding day? if yes then this artist can be on the consideration list.

  • Everyday faces - If the artist has some amazing looking work done on professional models, and you think yes, this person is perfect, but you can’t see any examples of work on faces that look like yours, then this artist might not be for you. Remember, if an artist isn’t posting styles of work that you want to have done, then it’s a sign that this artist might not be the right fit for you.

  • Budget - Many artists in the wedding industry may have a similar or the same skill set but their pricing may vary a lot. This can again be because of the type of clientele they want to attract. If you find an artist whose work looks pretty much the same or very similar, and they both appear to have great reviews but have very different price points, chances are it doesn’t necessarily mean one artist is better or worse than the other, but rather one bridal artist might want to attract a certain type of clientele versus the other. See which artists pricing aligns with your lifestyle and budget.

  • Reviews - Testimonials and reviews from real-life clients are so valuable, it’s worth looking through a hair and makeup artist's reviews, especially Google reviews, as this will be a great indicator of what their previous clients think of them and their experiences.

  • Timelyness - Now most Bridal makeup artists and Hairstylists wear many hats within their business, and if it is wedding season, there could be some delays in responses, but a response time of more than 2-3 days could be an indicator that this might be a point of stress later down the line when you may need quicker answers.

  • Vibes - Now this might sound unconventional but a vibe check is actually quite important. If an artist you have in mind offers a phone or video call, book that in and see if you click. There is nothing worse than having an artist on your wedding day that you don’t vibe with, no matter how good their work is, and it can really put a damper on your day.

If you are a bride-to-be on the hunt for a hair stylist or makeup artist (or both!) for your wedding day, get in touch to book a consultation call, and we can chat about how I might be a good fit for you.

In todays world of filters and AI, a vibe check with your potential hairstylist and makeup artist might be one of the most valuable measures for choosing your perfect artist.
